Executive Producer / Producer
Sabella Sugar is a dynamic creative force and Principal at Ultrafilms Pty Ltd, originally founded in 1997 by the late, acclaimed producer David Lightfoot. With a strong background in creative development and storytelling, Sabella brings sharp vision and a strategic mind to every project she leads. Sabella was an Executive Producer on the heartwarming feature film Never Too Late, directed by Mark Lamprell and starring screen legends Jacki Weaver, Jack Thompson, and Academy Award winner James Cromwell. The film premiered in 2020 and was one of the top 10 box office hits in Australia that year.
In 2022, she worked on the psychological thriller Girl at the Window, featuring Radha Mitchell and Vince Colosimo, which was released worldwide to strong reception. Currently, Sabella is spearheading creative development on the highly anticipated Olympic biopic When We Were Brothers, the powerful untold story of Australian sprinter Peter Norman and his role in the iconic Black Power salute at the 1968 Mexico City Games.
With a passion for impactful, meaningful storytelling, Sabella plays a hands-on role in shaping Ultrafilms’ slate of upcoming projects, driving them from concept through to screen with both creative and commercial insight. Before entering the film industry, Sabella spent eight years in the financial services sector, working under an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) where she produced and presented daily market updates for a share market advisory service—experience that now fuels her strategic edge in business and production.
A strong believer in the power of story to spark change, Sabella blends creative vision with business acumen, positioning Ultrafilms as a bold voice in contemporary Australian cinema.
